A little pressure changes the tune

| June 19, 2018 10:01 PM

Two men who lost a load of garbage off a Ford pickup on U.S. 93 had to return and pick it up. A caller said he told them about the mishap, but they didn’t do anything about it. When a Flathead County Sheriff’s Office deputy got involved, they changed their tune.

A person called to report placing an injured deer in the backseat of the car. The person was advised to take the deer out of the car and a deputy would “take care of it.”

A trip to Glacier National Park turned sour for a man and his daughter. The 21-year-old woman got into a verbal argument with her dad before she jumped out of the vehicle he was driving near Berne Park. An officer picked her up and took her to the park’s west entrance, where her father picked her up. He took her to a motel until she could be flown back to Hawaii.

A call to the sheriff about a possible assault turned out to be a little sketchy after a deputy spoke to a woman. She claimed her bank card was stolen, but a deputy indicated she “bounced all over the place while speaking” and couldn’t tell the officer why she needed help. Due to her intoxicated state, she wasn’t allowed to drive.

A person having alleged problems with a barking dog gave a deputy a “bark” log, detailing the animal’s frequency of offenses.

A deputy had few answers for a caller who was in the process of converting a bus to an RV. She wanted to know how far along in the process she had to be before they could sign off on the conversion and do a VIN inspection on the new RV. She said she would call the Department of Motor Vehicles to see what had to be done.

A man driving a John Deere skid steer and a dump truck driver had terse words over a downed power line before cooler heads prevailed. The driver of the truck hit a line, causing it to flash and leak fluid. The Flathead Electric Cooperative and fire company responded to the scene, but law enforcement officers weren’t needed.

A caller reported being hit by a pellet from an air rifle fired by a boy shooting at a black bird. When a deputy spoke to the boy’s parents, the father said he’d speak to the boy and that “he wouldn’t be shooting at birds anymore.” Fortunately, the shooting victim was not injured.

A German shepherd/golden retriever mix was locked up after it was accused of chasing deer. Another dog escaped, though.

A man called to report another woman looking at his girlfriend with binoculars.

Someone called to report that his wife, an alleged user of methamphetamine, had locked him and their kids out of the house after she found out he had called the police about her. She was later taken to the Flathead County Jail on outstanding warrants.

A person called the Columbia Falls Police Department about too much noise. It was a family reunion and the people there said they’d keep it down.

A man who had his Tahoe towed said when he gets it back, he will use it to move the fifth-wheel trailer that he had parked there for several months. Someone called to report people living in the trailer and wanted it moved.
