Flora Louise Baker-Sladek, 75

Flora Louise Baker-Sladek, 75, beloved mother, sister, aunt and wife, passed away at her home on March 11, 2018, in Whitefish, where she outran advanced Alzheimer’s.

Flora was born on Dec. 1, 1942, In Whitefish to William and Edith L. Baker. She graduated from Whitefish High School and then attended Kinmen Business University.

On Jan. 20, 1962, she met Steven Jerome Sladek. They married later that year on June 25. The couple moved to California where Flora worked in banking as a credit union manager for many years. When she retired the couple moved back to Whitefish.

Flora will be remembered for her sense of humor, her love and devotion to her family and friends, her willingness to always go the extra mile for those she loved, her intense love of Montana, Glacier Park, and Elvis. She was proud of her heritage of being the oldest living granddaughter of the founding fathers of Whitefish.

Flora was preceded in death by her parents, William and Edith Baker; her aunt and uncle, Earnest and Alice (Mickie) Baker; and her brother, Bruce Baker.

She is survived by her husband, Steven Sladek; her beautiful kitty, Earl Grey; daughter, Claudia Ward (Dave); son, Steve Sladek; her brothers, Ernie Baker and Ed Baker; her sister, Alice Baker-Taber (Roger); grandson, Cameron Ward; granddaughters, Danielle Ward and Renee Sladek; and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses of North Valley Hospital, Genesis, Hospice, and the First Presbyterian Church of Whitefish.

In Lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to cover Flora’s final expenses.

A memorial service will be held for Flora at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, at First Presbyterian Church in Whitefish with Pastor Tim Dalton officiating.
