Flora 'Sissy' Sorley, 66

| March 16, 2018 4:00 AM

Flora “Sissy” Sorley, 66, of Hungry Horse, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, cousin, and friend to many, was un-expectantly “called home to be with our Lord and Savior” on March 12, 2018.

Flora was born in April of 1951, in Browning to Severino DeVera and Emma McGillis-DeVera. As a young girl she became known to all of her siblings, cousins, aunties and uncles as “Sissy.” She lived in many places, from East Glacier to Kalispell. Flora graduated in the spring of 1971 from Columbia Falls High School. A short month later, on June 5th of 1971 she married the love of her life, Kenneth E. Sorley, in Woodland Park in Kalispell, Montana.

In her younger years you could find her playing softball and riding trail bikes on trails, leading out fishing and hunting camps, or pulling weeds from the garden. Later on she graduated from riding bike on trails to road trips either as a passenger or solo on her own Honda 900 CB Custom, camping along the way, to relaxing in the South Fork of the Bob Marshall picking morels, chokecherries and huckleberries. At home if she wasn’t spending time with family, she would bake, crochet, knit, cross stitch, tat, sew, bead and scrap-book. As of just recently, she took up quilting.

She was a proud member of the Little Shell Chippewa Tribe. When their girls were elementary age she volunteered to be a Girl Scout leader and helped mold many young girls to become young women. Flora would also be found on search and rescue missions with the North Valley Search and Rescue. Each winter Flora would spend many hours baking and volunteering with the Canyon Fishing Derby, raising funds for the Canyon Kids Christmas Fund.

Flora “was welcomed home into heaven” by her father and mother, her little brother “Phillip,” and her granddaughter “Samantha.”

She will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 46 years; her daughters, Annette (Eric), Laura (Hank), and Pauline “Poe” (Justin); eight grandchildren, Kenneth (20), Breana (17), Brailyn (15), Michael (14), Kindi (8), Shianne (7), Byron (5), and Bailey (2); three brothers, John (Laurie), George (MaryLynn), and Elmer (Monica); three sisters, Laura (Steve), Mary and Debbie; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are welcomed to join the immediately family for a viewing from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, at Darlington Funeral Home, located at 3408 U.S. Hwy. 2 East, Kalispell; with services at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 19, at Crossroads Church, located at 7465 Montana 35, Bigfork. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia Falls. A potluck reception will follow at North Valley Community Center at 235 Nucleus Ave., Columbia Falls.

Flowers can be sent to Darlington Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, a monetary donation may be made to Canyon Kids Christmas Fund at Glacier Bank in memory of “Flora Sorley.”

Darlington Cremation and Burial Service is caring for Sissy’s family.
