Louise Van Meter Widener, 89

Louise Van Meter Widener, 89, was born to Edith and J. Baylor Van Meter in Lexington, Kentucky on November 17, 1928. She married P.A.B. Widener III on October 24, 1947. They lived between Lexington, Palm Beach, Florida and summered on their ranch in the Blackfoot Valley between Helmville and Ovando, Montana. Louise remained in Montana following her divorce then moved to Butte for approximately 3 years and then to Whitefish in 1961, where she remained for the rest of her life. Louise was an avid dog lover and horseperson as well as an accomplished fisherman, hunter and all around outdoors-woman. She encouraged, supported, and facilitated her sons towards a passion for the outdoors, for which they are forever grateful. In her later years her life revolved around her grandchildren, who lived close by, and her dogs. She was a member of the Episcopal Church and felt her Faith carried her through many a day. Louise lived her life frugally and often lived by the motto “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Survivors include her two sons: Pete (Lucy) of Sheridan, WY and George (Patti) of Columbia Falls, MT; five grandchildren: Mary Widener and Amy Widener (George), Sam Widener, Ben Widener, Peter Widener (Pete); and two great-grandsons: Carter and Harvey Widener (Peter). Louise’s sunshine will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Whitefish Animal Shelter, Equine Rescue, or the charity of your choice.

A celebration of Louise’s life will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 11 a.m. at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 2048 Conn Road, Columbia Falls, MT 59912.
