Frenchtown edges Libby 3-2 in softball
LIBBY — Haylee Cannon doubled in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Sammee Breeden, who walked earlier, from second with no outs to give the Loggers a chance, but Libby fell short in the end by dropping a Northwestern A conference softball contest to Frenchtown on Friday afternoon, 3-2.
Cannon, the tying run, was stranded at third when the game ended.
“We played well,” veteran Libby coach Dean Thompson said. “We’re a young team getting better. We have a lot of work to do. The girls are positive, working hard.”
Cannon’s fielder’s choice in the fourth inning scored Khalyn Hageness from third.
Jayden Winslow, 2 for 3, and Bradeen, 1 for 3, had the other hits for Libby. Winslow also doubled.
Hageness (1-3) went the distance in the circle. She gave up six hits, fanned five batters and issued three walks.
It was the second tough loss for Libby in two days. The Loggers lost at Polson on Thursday, 8-5.
Libby (1-3 overall and conference) hosts St. Ignatius on Friday (6 p.m.) and plays at Columbia Falls the following day (5:30 p.m.)
