Stillwater Christian School fourth-grader Emma Anderson has been awarded a $1,000 college scholarship through the Carson Scholars Program.

The purpose of the program, started by renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson and his wife, Candy, is to “recognize and reward outstanding students” in grades four through 11 throughout the United States “who exemplify academic excellence and humanitarian qualities,” according to www.carsonscholars.org.

Students must be nominated by a school to compete in the scholarship program. Carson Scholars must have a minimum grade point average of 3.75 along with community service experience.

Stillwater will receive a trophy for Anderson’s achievement and an award banquet will be held in May.

An awards banquet will be held in Baltimore in May.

Ben Carson spoke in Kalispell in March 2014 as a keynote speaker for the school’s annual “For Such a Time as This” event.
