Kalispell Lakers split AA play with Helena Senators

Brandon Jordan, Dawson Smith and Johan Freudenburg had two RBIs each to power the Kalispell Lakers to an 11-1 victory in the second game of a nonconference American Legion AA baseball doubleheader with the Helena Senators at Griffin Field on Saturday afternoon.

Kalispell dropped the first game 5-2.

The Lakers pushed five runs across the plate in the bottom half of the first inning of the second contest and held a commanding 8-1 lead after three innings.

Jordan and AJ Jones had two hits apiece for the Lakers. Randy Stultz doubled and scored three times.

Drew Scherrer was the winning pitcher, holding the Senators to five hits over five innings. He walked one batter and struck out four.

Brett Jacobs checked Kalispell on four singles to pick up the win on the mound for Helena in the opener.

Helena tallied three runs in the top of the first and added two runs in the fifth.

Kalispell scored a run in the first and fifth innings.

Logan Siblerud took the loss for Kalispell. He allowed six hits over five innings, walked five batters and fanned four.

Kalispell (5-4 overall) hosts the Butte Miners AA today for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at Griffin Field.

HELENA — Wes Palmer dazzled in a complete-game shutout on the mound to lead the Kalispell Lakers A to a Game 1 win versus the Helena Reps.

The Reps rallied in the bottom of the seventh to salvage a split in Game 2.

Palmer allowed only three hits in his seven innings of work in the opener. He struck out seven and walked just one.

Nate Kelly and Grant Marsh drove in runs to provide the only offense Kalispell would need.

The Lakers looked on their way to a doubleheader sweep in Game 2 until things unraveled in the final frame.

Trailing 3-1 entering their final at-bat, the Reps scored three unearned runs to walk off with the victory.

Tristin Topete led the charge offensively for the Lakers in the nightcap, going 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

The Lakers return home today for a doubleheader versus Butte A beginning at 1 p.m. at Archie Roe Field.
