A Polson High School senior died over the weekend following injuries he sustained while hiking at Mud Lake near Polson.

On Saturday, May 12, Cameron Roullier, 18, died on scene from injuries he sustained after he slipped on wet rocks and fell into fast-moving water, according to Lake County Sheriff Don Bell.

At approximately 3:45 p.m., Lake County 911 received a call that a member of a group with which Roullier was with fell into the water and was swept over a cliff.

Bell activated Lake County Search and Rescue and asked for Two Bear Air to assist in the search for Roullier.

Two Bear Air located Roullier about two-thirds down the cliff face, Bell said, after which a search and rescue rope team descended down the cliff to assist with recovery.

Roullier’s body was sent to the Montana crime laboratory in Missoula to further determine a cause of death.

“Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Don Bell wish to express our sincere condolences to the Roullier family. We are deeply saddened by your loss,” Bell included in the press release.

Roullier was set to graduate from Polson High School on June 2.

Polson School District Superintendent Rex Weltz shared a statement Monday morning, expressing condolences and noting that during trying times everyone in the district takes care of each other.

“The next few days and weeks will be tough on PHS. I am confident the Polson School District, community, staff, and students of this great district, will take care of and support one another,” Weltz said.

Counselors will be available to district students and staff.
