Big cat, big rumors: Bigfork tiger saga continues

The mysterious tiger that was supposedly seen in the Bigfork area is still spawning more calls to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office. Most recently, a child came home from school saying there was a tiger running loose in the Ferndale area. A deputy spoke to someone with state Fish, Wildlife and Parks and they were aware of the complaint. The deputy said from what he understood, the unknown person who allegedly saw the tiger is not returning phone calls from FWP.

A person called to report a child driving a gold-colored sedan on Canyon Road near Hungry Horse. The person believed the child was about seven years old. When the person tried to find the child, he couldn’t see him.

A black Angus cow was reported wandering through a person’s property on Somers Road. Its ear tag was No. 69. The person thought it might belong to a farmer near U.S. 93. A door notice was posted.

Someone called to request a walk-through by officers after finding an uncapped needle at an area business. The person believed there were a lot of drug users there.

A person called to report someone possibly driving under the influence. When an officer made contact with the man, he provided a breath sample and was under the legal limit.

A person called to report a woman had posted on social media that her son was beaten up; she was posing with guns and said she would get even. But in another post, the woman said “she was not threatening children and would let the courts handle it.” A deputy attempted to call the woman, but her phone was turned off. The complaint was forwarded to the student resource officer.

Someone called to report several people in a pickup drinking on his property. They were asked to leave and did so after first refusing.

A white pit bull mix found a new home at the county animal shelter after someone reported it hanging around a hotel for about a week. The dog had a choke collar, but no tags.

A person called to report a reckless driver on Reserve Drive. The person said the driver-side front tire was wobbling violently and there was a lot of smoke in the car because of the driver smoking.

Someone called to report that a man came to the house in the middle of the night, stole a lawnmower and then pawned it. The person reporting the incident believed the man who did it had a temporary restraining orer against him.

A person called to report that a man she had hired to wash windows had stolen an $8 pack of cigarettes from her. She thought one of her kids had taken the cigarette, but when she checked security camera footage, she saw it was the man.

A person called the Kalispell Police Department to report non-stop dog barking. The person also had video of the crazed canines.

A witness called to report a hit-and-run in a parking lot. The person was sitting in his friend’s car, a green Hyundai, when someone driving a silver Toyota Tundra backed into it. The person couldn’t see the license plate because of a bike rack on the Tundra.

Someone called to report a green bus with political ads all over it parked in front of a store. The person wanted her to move along, but when an officer checked the bus, it was padlocked and the woman who parked it there was not present.

Someone called to report seeing a man with a pit bull in the parking lot and an employee hearing a woman scream. A woman outside said the man was acting aggressively. It turned out to be two parents and a child walking their dogs and they were able to get the second dog back.

Someone called the Whitefish Police Department to report two juveniles riding their skateboards in an apartment parking lot. When asked to leave, they reportedly refused. An officer spoke with them and advised them to leave. The caller was satisfied with that.

Someone called about construction workers continually parking in front of a fire hydrant, even though they have been asked to not do so. The workers were advised.
