Charles M. Millspaugh, 85

Charles M. Millspaugh of Bremerton, Washington, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his wife, Mary, and family on Feb. 27, 2018.

Mr. Millspaugh was born in Greenwood, Arkansas on May 6, 1932, to Earl and Lola (Wheeler-McCart) Millspaugh. He was raised in Kalispell, and graduated from Flathead County High in 1950.

After graduation he and three friends joined the Navy. He served as a third class aviation ordinance man on the USS Philippine Sea during the Korean War. Upon discharge he returned to Montana

and attended the University of Montana in Missoula, spending his summers as a forestry aide. Charles enrolled in the Ship Fitters Apprenticeship at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, graduating in 1963. He met his future wife in Bremerton and they were married in December of 1968. He retired as a quality analyst specialist and supervisor of ship repair. Later he worked at various jobs: City of Bremerton Waste Water, Tacoma Boat, and Lake Union Drydock.

Charles was a member of Toastmasters, enjoyed gardening, reading science fiction, mysteries, Westerns and biographies. He also continued his education with classes at Olympic College.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers John, James and Homer, and sister Hilda; his brother-in-law C.E. Drake, and niece Karen (Drake) Broderick.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (Fischer), of nearly 50 years; sisters-in-law Leslie Millspaugh, Judy Drake, and Irene (Jack) Aylward; and brother-in- law Ed (Sue) Fischer; Hilda’s four adult children, nieces Dawn, Wendy, Amy, Angela, Kathleen and Michelle; and nephews Steve, Rick and Brian. Charles had a special relationship with his great-nephew, Anthony Raymond, as he had a significant role in his upbringing.
