Iris Ione Bundrock Hindman, 95
Our sweetest flower, Iris Ione Hindman, passed away May 17, 2018, in Kalispell of natural causes. She was 95 years of age.
Iris was born Feb. 20, 1923, on the family farm in Britton, South Dakota, to William John Bundrock and Sara Hall Bundrock. At the age of 12 she moved with her family to the Flathead Valley. Iris graduated from Flathead County High School in 1942, and on September 26 of the same year she married Worth Alexander Hindman of Hermiston, Oregon, in Lewiston, Idaho. Together they moved and raised four children in the Flathead Valley.
Iris served as deputy clerk and recorder of Flathead County for 28 years and was elected clerk and recorder for two terms before retiring from the county in 1985. She worked for several years as a Montana Realtor for Valley Realty Co.
Iris was an active member of Soroptimist, Women’s Republican Party of Flathead County, and held the position of state officer of the Montana Association on County Clerk and Recorders. She served on several state committees and attended the Christian Center Church of Kalispell. Her interests were varied, and her hands were never idle.
Iris enjoyed many hobbies, including clogging, knitting, scrap-booking, painting and creating and selling paper tole and scratch art. She was a member of the Montana Fiddlers and loved singing and playing music with her own group “The Fiddling Friends.” They entertained at numerous events throughout the years at the Conrad Mansion, nursing homes, Hope Ranch, Art in the Park, Friendship House, birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and funerals. Iris was a talented musician with a passion for the mandolin and her family and friends.
In her later years, Iris wintered in Arizona as a “snowbird” where she was active in community projects and volunteer work. She enjoyed the warm weather and her “beloved sunshine” and would often say she had the “very best of both beautiful states.”
Iris was preceded in death by her husband, Worth Hindman; her parents, William and Sara Bundrock; her four brothers, Bobby Bundrock, William Bundrock, Arthur Bundrock and Donald Bundrock; and two sisters, Florence Bundrock Tisher and Naomi Bundrock Savage.
