State A tennis: Whitefish's Buls 2nd in singles

POLSON — Whitefish junior Brendan Buls lost to Brad Rakich of Dillon 6-3, 7-5 in the boys singles final at the Class A state tennis tournament on Friday evening.
Buls, the Northwest A divisional champ, started the day with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Manual Gonzalez of Butte Central.
Buls beat two-time state runner-up Alex Raymond of Hamilton in the quarterfinals 6-0, 6-1 and Danner Purkett of Livingston in the first round 6-2, 6-1. Those matches were Thursday.
Whitefish seniors Mark Anderson and Forrest Kobelt finished fifth in doubles, beating Ryan Old Crow and Famous Left Hand of Hardin 6-4, 0-6, 6-3.
It was the fourth time in five matches Anderson and Kobelt went to three sets. They won three of them.
Anderson and Kobelt advanced to the fifth place match by stopping Carson McDaniel and Joe McDonald of Polson 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-5).
The tournament winds up today with boys singles (third/fourth- and fifth/sixth-place singles matches) and girls singles and doubles.
In the girls singles final, Shea McGuinness of Polson will face off with Olivia Fehr of Corvallis. McGuinness beat Nicole Hritsco of Dillon in Friday’s quarterfinals 6-4, 6-4 and dropped Reagan Smith of Livingston in the semifinals 6-4, 6-3.
Libby’s Isabella Martineau has a loser-out match today with Sharmayne Hardy of Hardin.
In girls doubles, Kyler Lundeen and Berkely Ellis of Polson have a loser-out match with Katherin Kamp and Bobbi Lima of Livingson and Aubrey Hanks and Olivia Potthoff of Whitefish will play Erin Bartlett and Jackie Westman of Stevensville. Those winners move on to the third place match.
Brooke Gilbertson and Lily Reddick of Belgrade face Makiko Reisig and Kate Murdock of Hardin in the doubles final.
