Soccer Whitefish boys blast Bigfork, 8-1

WHITEFISH — Six different players accounted for goals as Whitefish continues to march forward briskly with a convincing 8-1 Northern A boys soccer triumph over Bigfork on Tuesday at rainy Smith Fields.

Whitefish (11-0 overall, 7-0 league) led 6-0 at the half.

Casey Schneider and Xander Burger both scored twice in the first 20 minutes as Whitefish held a commanding 4-0 edge.

Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Sam Menicke, Ian Lacey, Brandon Mendoza and Chase Sabin.

Whitefish outshot Bigfork on goal 20-5 and led in corner kicks 9-2.

Whitefish is back in action Thursday at Polson at 7 p.m. Whitefish won the first matchup 5-0, handing Polson its only loss of the season.

LIBBY — John Gilk scored in the 60th minute off a free kick from 30-yards out to lift Columbia Falls to a Northern A win over Libby.

“We came out flat the first half, thought about last time we played them 9-0 (victory),” Columbia Falls coach O’Brien Byrd said. “Libby came out strong. We brought the intensity up in the second half. It was almost too late.”

Byrd said Gilk’s shot was a “beautiful curling” goal.

Columbia Falls (4-7, 3-4) plays at Bigfork on Thursday

Libby’s next outing is Saturday at home versus Polson.
