Marylyn Dolan Joseph, 87, of Whitefish, formerly of Wayzata, Minnesota, and Denver, died Oct. 16, 2018.

Marylyn was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she graduated from the Convent of the Visitation and St. Catherine University. As a young woman, Marylyn lived and worked in Sun Valley and Aspen, Colorado, and Glacier Park. Later she worked in social service in New York, Washington, D.C., and Denver.

Marylyn’s eloquence, dignity and ability to connect with others, known and unknown, and her selfless life, inspired her family and friends. Her originality, kindness, boundless compassion, exquisite taste, word mastery, and purity of mind and spirit, are unforgettable.

She denied everything frivolous, inauthentic, vulgar or avaricious. For her no day was like any other, because of her active mind. She lived deliberately, appreciated fine things, and inspired others’ trust. Her stories enthralled and held an audience. In Marylyn’s presence no one was a stranger. She loved family, art, her beloved dogs Zach, Molly, Max, Missy, Bert and Oso, and cooking for the entire neighborhood.

Marylyn was predeceased by her parents, George and Margaret Dolan, and her former husband, George Joseph Jr.

Survivors are her sister Susan LeCoq (John); and brother, Bill Dolan (Jane); daughter, Victoria Kronberg (Victor); and sons, William, Johnathan, and George Joshua (Stephanie); grandchildren, Ross and Wyatt Kronberg, and George and Jackson Joseph; nieces, Elizabeth Currier, Jennifer LeCoq, Andrea LeCoq Patterson, Katherine McGowan and Emily Hanavan; and nephews, John LeCoq, John, Andrew, Thomas and William Dolan; and countless friends and admirers.

A celebration of Marylyn’s life will be held at a later date.

Memorials are preferred to St. Catherine University (Marylyn Dolan Joseph Endowed Award for Creative Writing), or local public broadcasting stations.
