Chaotic kids pull dangerous stunts in Whitefish

| October 30, 2018 4:00 AM

Whitefish Police Department received several reports about groups of teens pulling dangerous stunts around town.

The first call came in about a group of five or six 12-year-olds who were hanging out near the viaduct and reportedly running through traffic on the bridge. One boy, wearing a beanie and purple-striped shirt, apparently refused to get out of the road.

Over on State Park Road, BNSF Railway Police reported six to seven high school kids parked in a compact car and SUV who were playing “chicken” with trains.

The reports of chaotic kids concluded with a call from U.S. 93, regarding a group of boys who appeared to be 11- to 12-year-olds running up and down hallways throwing rocks at a door. The caller allegedly confronted them, but said it continued to happen. Police advised the front desk personnel they needed to attempt to handle the situation before police could get involved

Two high school kids were seen jumping and walking along the ledge of the parking garage on First Street and were visible from Lupfer Avenue.

Someone on Second Street was concerned about a man who fell and appeared to be intoxicated, saying it took him more than two minutes to walk across the street. The man reportedly didn’t want any help.

A business owner on Central Avenue inquired if an officer could administer a drug test because the store smelled like marijuana and it was believed an employee was smoking.

A bank employee was quite concerned about a customer who allegedly made comments that he had killed a lot of people.

Someone on Karrow Avenue asked police go with him to a residence where people were allegedly doing heroin, and that his girlfriend had a “crackhead” at the house. The man was purportedly instructed to not go into the house prior to an officer contacting him.

A bear was seen in an Iowa Avenue resident’s yard. The bear reportedly had knocked over a garbage can twice. The bear was not being aggressive, but the resident was concerned since it was allegedly its fourth visit to the area.

According to a Flathead County Sheriff’s Office report, a belligerent man with delusions of grandeur on Ridgewood Drive in Lakeside was being verbally abusive toward dispatchers and reportedly stated his brother was a federal officer and “was going to have a field day with this.” The man was instructed several times to stop swearing at dispatchers, or they would disconnect. Apparently, this occurred when he called 911 back using profanities and purportedly stated that a “lawsuit was coming, so be prepared for it,” then hung up. Dispatchers called him back and requested he step outside to speak with an officer. He reportedly continued ranting and said “he’s not a small dog,” that “his dad and brother own Helena,” concluding with “this is not the end of this.” It seems the call originated over a woman who was at the location to pick up her belongings.

A bald, thin man in his mid-20s allegedly jumped out of a taxi on U.S. 2 in Martin City and into another car that took off — bailing out of the $161 cab fare.

A Kalispell woman was distressed when she confronted a man in his late teens or early 20s in her shed, telling him to stay away, and he reportedly said “I’m going to shoot you,” before walking away. She didn’t think he took anything from the shed and did not see weapons on him. Police had a suspect in mind.

Someone on Meridian Road in Kalispell was likely shocked by the scene that unfolded when a red truck apparently drove into a parking lot, slammed on the brakes, and a man threw two mattresses in the lot, then “manhandled” a woman, who was supposedly his mother. She asked the passerby for law enforcement help. When she connected with dispatchers she allegedly said he tried to handcuff her and she wanted to report him for driving recklessly.

A passerby on Cottonwood Drive in Kalispell reported a white vehicle with all the windows broken out.
