The section of Swan River near the Highway 209 bridge in Ferndale was reopened to recreation Friday.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks lifted its emergency closure and water users are urged to remain cautious near the site.

The Highway 209 bridge on the Swan River remains under construction and a temporary bridge currently exists.

It was closed during construction in early summer because unique abutments, combined with high-water levels, created hazardous conditions for recreational users.

But water levels have dropped and slowed considerably and several of the construction-related hazards have been mitigated.

FWP adopted the closure in collaboration with the Montana Department of Transportation, Sletten Construction and in consultation with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
