Johnston medals in golf; Whitefish girls team champs

LIBBY — Ryggs Johnston of Libby and Tricia Joyce of Butte Central captured medalist honors while the Whitefish girls and Hamilton boys claimed team titles on Saturday at the Western A Divisional golf tournament at Cabinet View Golf Course.

Johnston, a senior, shot a 65 on his home course to finish 10 shots ahead of runner-up Matt Hobbs of Polson.

Zel Frost of Stevensville was third with a 77.

Joyce carded a 73 to finish five shots in front of Macee Greenwood of Corvallis.

Ella Shaw of Whitefish was third with an 87.

The Whitefish girls had a winning score of 395. Corvallis, 400, was second and Polson, 422, third.

Hamilton’s boys shot 322 to edge Stevensville by eight shots for the title. Polson, 340, was third.

The Class A season concludes with the state tournament in Hamilton on Friday and Saturday.
