Lamb, Young top runners at Whitefish Invitational

Frenchtown boys and Whitefish girls claim team championships

WHITEFISH — Joe Lamb of Columbia Falls and Anya Young of Bigfork claimed individual titles while Frenchtown’s boys and Whitefish’s girls were the team champions on Tuesday at the Whitefish Invitational cross country meet at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.

Lamb led a strong showing by Columbia Falls with his winning time of 16 minutes, 42.5 seconds. He averaged 5:23 per mile for the race.

Close behind was James Normandeau of Ronan, second in 16:43.9.

Columbia Falls (54 points), which finished second behind Frenchtown (44), had three runners in the top seven spots. Seth Umbriaco was fifth, 16:57.2, and James Role was seventh, 17:29.7.

Five runners broke 17 minutes.

Lamb finished 10th here last year in 17:34.0.

Whitefish was third, 75. The Bulldogs were led by Miles Vrentas, who was eighth in 17:38.2.

Young cruised to an easy victory, clocked in 20:06.2. Abby Sherwood of Frenchtown was a distant second, 20:22.9, with Jessica Henson of Whitefish third, 20:27.9, and Ella Greenberg, also of Whitefish, fourth, 20:34.4.

Lara Erickson of Columbia Falls placed fifth, 20:441.

Whitefish had five runners in the top 10 to post a 24 team score. Columbia Falls, 52, was second and Frenchtown, 55, third.

Whitefish’s Jade Greenberg, 21:07.2, was sixth; Josephine Vardell, 21:34.8, eighth; and Alie Simpson, 21:35.9, 10th.

Up next for many of the

participants is the Mountain West Classic in Missoula on Saturday.
