Joe Procita of Columbia Falls is a featured vocalist for the Celebrate the Sixties show.

Take a trip down memory lane and listen/dance to the music of The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Four Seasons, Roy Orbison, Petula Clark, Johnny Rivers, The Shirelles, The Dixie Cups, The Crystals, The Mamas and the Papas, and many more great rock ‘n’ roll artists from the 1960s at a special four-hour show on Saturday, Oct. 6.

Cowboy Country and the Gold Dust Girls, a local seven-piece country Western band that’s been playing throughout western Montana for a couple of years, is trading hats and boots for bell-bottoms, tie-dyed shirts, and go-go boots so they can perform a night of early rock ‘n’ roll and country tunes from one of the best-loved musical decades of our lifetime.

The band will feature a guest vocalist for the evening, Joe Procita of Columbia Falls, who has been playing and singing around the Flathead for the past 10 years. Procita will take listeners back in time with tunes such as “Just My Style” (Gary Lewis & the Playboys), “I dig rock and roll music” (Peter, Paul, & Mary), “Windy” (The Association), Beatles tunes such as “I Want to Hold Your Hand”, “Can’t Buy Me Love”, “Yesterday” and “Hard Day’s Night”, as well as tunes by many more wonderful 1960s artists.

Cowboy Country’s lead female vocalist, Sandy Matheny, will perform equally popular ’60s tunes like “End of the World” (Skeeter Davis), “Proud Mary” (Credence Clearwater Revival), “Save the Last Dance for Me” (The Drifters), “These boots are made for walking” (Nancy Sinatra), and “I fall to Pieces” (Patsy Cline). Other vocalists in the band (Bill Rossiter and Scott Sorenson) will also sing tunes guaranteed to help you remember “yesteryear.”

The band will start at 7 p.m. sharp at the Kalispell Eagles Club Ballroom, the venue with the largest dance floor in the valley. Sixties attire is encouraged, but not required. Try to find your letterman’s sweaters and miniskirts and join Cowboy Country and the Gold Dust Girls to bring back memories from the 1960s. Get there early to get a good table. Special seating for listeners in front of the stage may be available upon request. (Please call 253-3157 for details.)

Band members include Karla West, piano and vocals; Connie Rudie, fiddle and vocals; Sandy Matheny, vocals and guitar; Scott Sorenson, vocals and guitar; Bill Rossiter, vocals and guitar; John Goodrich, bass and tenor sax; Chuck Martin, drums.
