Whitefish netters cruise by C-Falls
It was all Whitefish on Thursday afternoon as the Bulldogs defeated Columbia Falls 6-1 in both boys and girls tennis play on the courts at Flathead Valley Community College.
It was the season opener for both schools.
“I’m very happy with the way the team is playing so early in the season,” Whitefish coach Chris Schwaderer said.
“We are off to a good start. Columbia Falls is a solid team, and we had to play well across the board to beat them.
“At singles, Brendan Buls is looking very sharp,” Schwaderer continued.
“He’s extremely competitive and holds himself to a high standard. I think he set the tone for how this team wants to approach the season. The doubles team of Mark Anderson and Colter Upton were also looking great. They love tennis and are always looking to get better. I like where the team is right now, but we do have some big tests coming up this weekend with Dillon and Polson.”
Camryn Lingle was the lone winner for Columbia Falls, pulling out a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles.
Whitefish will face Dillon and Polson on Saturday in Polson.
Columbia Falls plays Dillon today in Polson.

Girls
Gwen Foust’s 6-4, 6-1 victory for Columbia Falls at No. 4 singles prevented a sweep by Whitefish on the courts at Flathead Valley Community College.
Gracie Smyley, Claire Carloss and Jesse Grawonder rolled to easy wins at Nos. 1-2-3 singles for Whitefish.
Whitefish also dominated doubles play.
“It’s great to be rolling,” Columbia Falls coach Gene Marcille said.
“Whitefish has a real solid team, well coached. I’m pretty excited about our team, too. It also shows promise.”
Marcille said Foust, a junior, looked sharp.
“It was a real even matchup (at No. 4 singles),” he said.
“She was able to hang in there, stay focused. Her experience showed through as the match went on.”
