Softball Ward, Loggers shut out Wildkats
LIBBY — Keira Ward turned in a solid performance in the circle and Libby backed her up with strong play in the field to help the Loggers spill Columbia Falls 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in Northwest A softball play.
Libby (2-1 overall, 1-0 league) tallied two runs in the third inning and added another in the fifth. Ward had four strikeouts and walked two batters. She gave up three hits.
“She pitched really well,” Libby coach Dean Thompson said.
“She was hitting her spots and the defense played really well behind her. Columbia Falls put the bat on the ball, but hit it right at us.
“Savvy (Ellis) threw a great game for Columbia Falls,” he added. “We just got us a couple extra hits that allowed us to score.”
Bethany Thomas went 2 for 2 at the plate for Libby and also had a good defensive day at second base.
Libby has another home outing on Tuesday at 5 p.m. versus Stevensville.
Columbia Falls is off until Saturday when it hosts Corvallis.
