Flathead Valley Community College’s logger sports team will host the annual Stumpjumper Days competition on Saturday, April 20.

Celebrating the cultural history and spirit of all things lumberjack, athletes from six western colleges will compete in a series of wood cutting-themed events, including an ax throw, horizontal hard hit chop, obstacle pole buck, single buck and bonzai logger.

The logger sports team from FVCC will compete against athletes from Northern Arizona University, Spokane Community College, University of Idaho, University of Montana and University of Montana Western in hopes of claiming the title of Belle and Bull of the Woods and the Top Team awards.

The purpose of logger sports, according to the team’s website, is to acknowledge the history of forestry and logging and to keep traditions alive.

Free and open to the public, the event will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the FVCC Logger Sports Arena, accessible via the first exit off the Hutton Ranch Road roundabout.
