Seattle Mariner Bret Boone is keynote at Kalispell Lakers' fundraiser

The Kalispell Lakers invite the community to their annual Batter Up Bash, a fundraiser featuring former Seattle Mariner Bret Boone as the keynote speaker. This year’s event will be held Friday, April 19.

Proceeds will support the organization’s efforts to purchase a new bus for the three high school level Lakers baseball teams.

The event includes dinner, a silent auction and entertainment for all ages.

The doors of the Flathead County Fairgrounds Expo Building will open at 5 p.m. Tickets for dinner and the event are $50 or $60 per person.

During dinner attendees will hear from Boone who, during his career, was a three-time All-Star, four-time Gold Glove winner, and two-time Silver Slugger Award winner.

Boone will talk about the love of the game and how the joy of being part of a team teaches you how to find your role as an adult. Heis the son of Robert Boone, a former catcher and manager in Major League baseball who was a four-time All-Star. He is also the grandson of a major league player, the late third baseman Ray Boone. Bret’s brother is the former utility infielder Aaron Boone who is now the manager of the New York Yankees. All four family members were named All-Stars during their careers. The Boone family was the first to send three generations of players to the All-Star Game. Recently, the Washington Nationals selected Bret’s son, Jake, in the 2017 draft, making the Boone family the first to produce four generations of players. Stories of his family’s long history with Major League baseball are collected in Bret’s book “Home Game: Big-League Stories from My Life in Baseball’s First Family.” Copies of the book will be available the fundraiser.

Two upcoming workshop opportunities on “Dementia Care in the Home” will be offered from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, and June 26.
