Eureka blows by Thompson Falls twice in softball

EUREKA — Ciara Miller, hitting for the No. 9 spot in the batting order, doubled twice and drove in four runs for Eureka in a 21-3 Western B softball victory on Saturday over Thompson Falls.

Miller went 3 for 4 on the day.

Eureka had 12 hits, seven went for extra bases.

Katie Schmidt homered, Rhianna Hawkins tripled and Maya Carvey, Reena Truman and Haylie Hall doubled.

Hawkins, Hall and Truman had two RBIs each.

Eureka also dominated the second matchup, rolling to a 12-2 victory.

Escobar, who was the winning pitcher in both, fanned nine batters in the second game and allowed just two hits.

Escobar doubled twice and drove on two runs.

Savanna Vandeberg and Schmidt also doubled for Eureka and Carvey tripled.

Schmidt led the Lions offense, going 3 for 4. Hawkins had two hits.

Eureka (3-3 overall) hosts Plains for a doubleheader on Thursday.

HELENA — Glacier had to settle for a Western AA split.

The Wolfpack slipped by Helena Capital, but lost to Helena High on a walk off home run by Vanessa Walsh in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Reegan Walsh also homered for Helena High in the fourth inning.

In the win over Capital, Sage Vanterpool hit a three-run homer run and picked up the win in the circle. She struck out 10 and allowed nine hits in going the distance.

Glacier is back in action Tuesday versus Flathead at Kidsports Complex.

HELENA — No results were available from Flathead’s games with the two Helena Schools.

Flathead hosts Glacier on Tuesday at Kidsports Complex for the first crosstown meeting of the season.

Polson 11, Libby 1

POLSON — Lisa Castillo homered and drove in four runs to push Polson past Libby in Northwest A play.

Castillo, 2 for 3, hit her home run in the fourth inning with one runner on.

Polson jumped in front 7-0 and never looked back.

“They hit the ball really well and we didn’t hit the ball at all,” Libby coach Dean Thompson said.

Lauren Vergeront held Libby to five hits.

“She kept us on our toes,” Thompson said of Vergeront.

“We popped the ball up a lot.”

Polson leadoff hitter Josie Caye went 3 for 4, doubled twice and drove in two runs.

Sammee Bradeen doubled for Libby.

Libby has a Northwest A game on Tuesday at Columbia Falls.

Polson hosts Ronan on Tuesday in Northwest A action.
