The Literacy Center of Northwest Montana is having its Spellebration event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at Kalispell’s Gateway Community Center, 1203 U.S. 2 W., Suite 26.

The fundraiser pits teams of Scrabble players against the clock for a chance to win prizes. Gather a team of four players or join a community team.

Entrance fees are $25 per person, or $10 for students and senior citizens.

The Literacy Center of Northwest Montana is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting increased literacy through the training and support of community volunteers, provision of literacy instruction and skills-based education.

Spaghetti dinner for Evergreen, sheriff’s posse

The Evergreen Lions Club has chosen the Flathead County Sheriff’s Posse as a recipient of its fundraiser this year.

An all-you-can-eat spaghetti feed is planned Thursday, April 18, at Evergreen Junior High School. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Sheriff’s Posse and Evergreen Lions Club.

A silent auction will feature items from throughout the Flathead Valley. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children and $25 for a family.

The posse is working on converting the former Boys and Girls Club roller rink into posse headquarters that eventually can be used for community events, after-school programs for at-risk youth and other events to pull the Evergreen community together, making it safer and more family-friendly.

Taste of Bigfork food and wine event is April 28

The Taste of Bigfork 2019 will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 28.

Stroll downtown Bigfork and enjoy wine and food tastings from more than 20 local dining establishments.

There will also be live music throughout Bigfork Village by Man & a Box, Billy Angel, Merle Robinson, Apartment Two, Dave Von Kliest, LeftOver Biscuits, the Bad Larrys and Don Beans.

The annual event is a benefit for Flathead Habitat for Humanity and the Bigfork Area Chamber of Commerce.

“The world’s greatest raffle” will take place at 5 p.m. at the Garden Bar with many great items donated by Bigfork and area merchants for you to win.

Tickets for the Taste of Bigfork are $40 per person at Electric Avenue Gifts and the Bigfork Area Chamber of Commerce office.

Audubon to visit West Valley Ponds

Flathead Audubon will host a field trip to the West Valley Ponds in Kalispell from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 20.

The group will visit several ponds in the West Valley area including the new public bird viewing area. Expect to see lots of migrating waterfowl and look for shorebirds, raptors and early passerines. Roads will be both paved and gravel. This trip will be primarily driving.

Used book sale at FVCC

Flathead Valley Community College will hold a used-book sale Thursday, April 18, through Sunday, April 28, in the campus library, located inside the Learning Resource Center Building.

Hours of the sale will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, and noon to 4:30 p.m. on weekends.

Books will be priced at $1 each until Thursday, April 25, and discounted to 25 cents thereafter.

The FVCC Library is preparing to move to its new location inside the Broussard Family Library and Learning Commons later this spring.

Hospice offers bereavement support group

Home Options Hospice is offering a five-week Bereavement Support Group, serving adults who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Through participation, individuals learn about the grieving process, identify coping skills and gain encouragement from others to find meaning in life and living.
