The Flathead boys and Bigfork girls were 6-2 winners in a nonconference tennis dual Tuesday on the courts at Flathead Valley Community College.

Flathead’s boys won matches at both 2-3-4 singles and doubles.

The Bigfork girls swept singles play and added wins at Nos. 1 and 4 doubles.

“Bigfork is a strong tennis program,” Flathead coach Jimmy Cripe said.

“They are very well coached by Mike Bonner and Paul Wallin and their players really compete. Payton Crawford and Trey Christiaens played exceptional singles at No. 1 for them. Ryan Thomsen, David Marburger and Gabe Felton had nice singles wins to lead our boys team. The No. 3 boys doubles team and No. 2 girls doubles got wins today. It was one of the nicest days we’ve had for tennis so far.”

Only one match went three sets with the No. 3 doubles team of Evan Sevaly and Liam Rehbein topping Bigfork’s Wyatt Reichenbach and Reed Barrows, who also played a No. 2 doubles match, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7.

Bigfork also tangled with Glacier in a last-minute scheduled dual. The girls settled for a 4-4 tie while the Glacier boys won 7-1.

Bigfork’s No. 1 doubles team of Clay and Colton Reichenbach won both their matches.

This was the first high school match of the season for Glacier’s Maria Frampton because of rain outs and her UTSA play.

“She looked good,” Glacier coach Josh Munro said.

“The singles kids, it was nice to see them get some play. Everyone was a little rusty. You could tell we haven’t had a lot of match play. Bigfork played very well, They played from 1 o’clock on, five hours of tennis.”

Flathead and Glacier are back in action Friday and Saturday at the Missoula Invitational.
