Cram named head coach of Glacier girls basketball

Amanda Cram, who has been on the Glacier High School girls basketball coaching staff for the last four years, has been named the school’s new head coach.

Glacier High School activities director Mark Dennehy made the announcement in a Tuesday press release.

Cram has been the Wolfpack freshman basketball coach the last three years. She coached the sophomores her first season in 2015.

Cram also teaches English at the high school.

Her hire is pending school board approval at its next meeting.

“Amanda has worked within the program at Glacier High under the last two head coaches and has grown tremendously,” Dennehy said.

“She brings a wealth of understanding of the culture of GHS along with an outstanding work ethic. Her teams at GHS have always been well prepared and competed well for the Pack. We are excited for the next chapter of Wolfpack basketball with her at helm.”

Cram replaces Bill Sullivan, who resigned after three seasons leading the Wolfpack. Sullivan coached Glacier to a 37-36 record during his tenure. The Wolfpack was the only team to defeat three-time Class AA state champion Helena High last season.

Sullivan cited family as a reason for his departure. His own kids are beginning to play sports and he wants to be able to attend more of their events.

“I had a lot of success at the freshman level and had some amazing athletes,” Cram said.

“This brings about new challenges, not ones that you always see at the varsity levels,” said of coaching at the sub-varsity level.

“You get to know student athletes, challenge them along with developing them.”

Her Glacier freshmen squad posted a 19-1 mark one year.

Cram is anxious and ready for her next challenge.

“Glacier has already established success, a great tradition,” she said.

“I want to continue with those and establish my own.

“I’m excited to work with the girls currently in the program and build it up from there,” she added.

Cram played basketball and ran cross country and track at Massillon Perry High School in Massillon, Ohio.

A middle distance runner, she attended Kent State University on an athletic scholarship and graduated in 2005.

She moved to Montana in 2008 and previously taught and coached at Broadwater High School in Towsend.
