Todd, Deck shine for Glacier

Defending Class AA state javelin champion Evan Todd of Glacier had his best throw of the season on Thursday at a track meet at Glacier High School.

Todd won the event with a throw of 196 feet, 1 inch. His previous best this season was 187-4, which was third best in the state.

He now trails Rylan Ortt of Missoula Sentinel (200-10), but moves to second ahead of Michael Graves of Hamilton (189-2).

Todd’s winning distance at state last year was 184-1.

Ortt was second at 182-5.

Glacier’s Drew Deck turned in a fast 50.79 to win the 400. That is the fourth best time, all classes, this spring. Hunter Leighty of Troy has the fastest at 50.50.

Also competing Tuesday were Bigfork, Eureka and Libby.

All four teams will be in action Saturday at the ARM Invitational in Whitefish.

Flathead Triangular

The Flathead girls, led by event winners Jessica Barnhart (100), Tori Noland-Gillespie (800), Madison Boles (high jump) and Kayla Martin (shot put), edged Missoula for the team title by eight points.

Flathead turned in a 66 point score to 58 for Sentinel.

Missoula Hellgate, 57, was a close third.

The other first for the Bravettes was in the 400 relay.

Sentinel won seven events and Hellgate totaled five.

The Sentinel boys dominated, winning 13 events and posting a 104 1/2 point score.

Flathead, still not at full strength because of injuries, was second 41 1/2 and Hellgate third with 34.

Flathead placed first and second in the 800 with Kyle Calles and Ben Perrin, won the 400 relay and Seth Moon had the best distance to take first in the long jump.

Hellgate won one event.

Calles had a winning time of 2:01.57 and Perrin was close behind at 2:01.58. Those are the third and fourth fastest times in that event this spring for all classes. Levi Taylor of Laurel has the best time at 1:59.53.

Flathead is back in action on Saturday at the ARM Invitational in Whitefish.
