Glacier plow crews reach the Weeping Wall

Crews removing snow this week from the Going-to-the-Sun Road reached the beginning of the Weeping Wall to the west of Logan Pass and crews working the road’s east side reached Siyeh Bend, according to Glacier National Park updates.

Snowfall predicted for the weekend could complicate snow removal in the week ahead.

The section of the Going-to-the-Sun Road between Lake McDonald Lodge and Rising Sun remains closed due to plowing.

Even if plowing clears the full 50-mile road before June 22, the Going-to-the-Sun Road will remain closed to vehicle traffic until at least that date to allow pavement preservation work to proceed.

Currently, 17 miles of the road are open for vehicle travel. Visitors can drive 11.5 miles from the West Entrance to Lake McDonald Lodge and 5.5 miles from the St. Mary Entrance to Rising Sun.

For hikers and bikers, the closure on the west side is at Packers Roost, 11 miles past the vehicle closure. On the east side, the hiker/biker closure is at Rising Sun.
