County gets grant to study Evergreen wastewater system

Flathead County is one of 19 Montana communities to receive a planning grant to support the development of infrastructure projects, according to a press release from the Montana Department of Commerce.

Flathead County will receive $15,000 to complete a wastewater system preliminary engineering report for Evergreen Water and Sewer District No.1.

Other communities that received grants ranging from about $12,500 to $15,000 include the Seeley Lake Sewer District, Glacier County, city of Three Forks, and the city of Deer Lodge.

The grants total more than $275,000 and were awarded through the Montana Department of Commerce’s Treasure State Endowment Program, which “supports local governments with the development of infrastructure plans.” The project phase of the program, according to the press release, assists local governments with drinking water system upgrades, wastewater treatment facilities, sanitary or storm sewer systems and more.

In a prepared statement, the director of the Department of Commerce, Tara Rice, said “Every community needs clean drinking water, safe bridges and good water treatment systems. These TSEP grants support the planning of infrastructure projects that are vital to the future of Montana communities.”

Eligible applicants for the program planning grants include incorporated cities or towns, counties, consolidated governments, tribal governments and county or multi-county water, sewer or solid waste districts.
