Voisin offers scholarship to join freestyle team

| August 24, 2019 4:00 AM

Whitefish’s own slopestyle skiing superstar, Maggie Voisin, has announced she is offering a scholarship to cover the fees to join the Whitefish Mountain Resort’s Freestyle Ski and Snowboard Team, as well as the cost of a season pass for the upcoming year. The scholarship will be awarded to one athlete, male or female, skier or snowboarder.

Voisin is a current member of the U.S. Freeski team, a two-time Olympian and an X-Games gold medalist. She was born and raised in Whitefish and is an alumni of the Whitefish Mountain Resort’s Freestyle Ski and Snowboard Team.

Voisin has chosen to award an athlete who, in a written essay, best portrays these traits in their skiing or snowboarding life. This scholarship is unique, as traditional athletic scholarships are often based on performance (competition results-based) or based on financial need.

“I want to show kids that you can achieve your wildest dreams with passion, dedication, hard work and gratitude,” Voisin said. “Also, and most importantly, always have fun!”

Applications will be accepted Sept. 1 through Oct. 11, with the winner to be chosen and announced by Voisin Nov. 1. If the winner has already paid to join the team and/or purchased a season pass, those costs will be refunded.

Whitefish Freestyle Inc., the nonprofit partner to the Freestyle Team up on the mountain, who does offers their own financial need based scholarship program, will administer Voisin’s scholarship. For any questions, or to receive an application, email whitefishfreestyle@yahoo.com.
