Prep Football Roundup Townsend trips Bigfork; Libby, Eureka roll

BIGFORK — A 38-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Trey Hoveland to Dawson Sweat with 7 seconds left before halftime put Townsend in front for good en route to a 20-14 Class B nonconference season opening football victory over Bigfork on Friday night.

The two teams traded scores prior to that — Hoveland passing 30 yards to Aaron Geisser and Hunter Dobbs bolting 22 yards for a touchdown.

Bigfork scored on a pair of short runs, 1 and 3 yards, by Kainin Lafontaine.

Townsend dominated offensively, rolling up 364 yards to Bigfork’s 155.

Both teams turned it over twice.

Hoveland was 21 of 35 passing for 257 yards. He was intercepted twice.

Bigfork’s Patrick Wallen was 8 of 20 passing for 33 yards.

Tommy Stewart had 76 yards rushing on 17 attempts for Townsend.

Levi Taylor had eight carries for 76 yards for Bigfork. Lafontaine carried 11 times for 14 yards.

Bigfork will look to bounce back next Friday at Cut Bank.

Libby 31, Whitefish 0

WHITEFISH — Jeff Offenbecher and Dawson Young both scored two touchdowns and Chandler Bower booted a 20-yard field goal to go with four PAT kicks as Libby cruised to a Northwest A Conference victory over Whitefish.

It was the season opener for both schools.

Offenbecher had a 16 –yard TD catch from Jay Beagle and ran 93 yards for another.

Young had touchdown runs of 2 and 4 yards.

Young finished with 125 yards on 28 carries. Offenbecher had four carries for 115 yards.

Beagle completed 7 of 10 passes for 100 yards.

Devin Beale topped Whitefish offensively with 125 yards rushing on 28 carries.

Libby had 478 yards total offense to Whitefish’s 176.

Whitefish hosts Polson next Friday while Libby travels to Browning.

Eureka 35, Bonners Ferry 0

EUREKA — Five rushing touchdowns, two by Hank Dunn, gave Eureka a lopsided nonconference victory over Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

Dunn had TD runs of 3 and 30 yards.

Eureka led 22-0 at the half and added a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter.

Total offense favored Eureka in a big way — 417 yards to 87 for the vistors. Eureka had 339 yards rushing.

Chet McCully led the Eureka ground attack with 131 yards on 13 carries. Dunn added 101 yards on eight totes. Jake Kindel finished with 62 yards on seven attempts.

Dunn was 5 of 13 passing for 78 yards.

Eureka hosts Townsend next Friday in a Class B nonconference matchup.
