BONNERS FERRY, Idaho — Two late goals allowed Bonners Ferry to escape with a 2-0 boys nonconference soccer victory over Stillwater Christian School (0-2) on Friday afternoon.

Bonners Ferry scored at 50 and 70 minutes.

The second goal was a penalty kick.

“Bonners Ferry is one of our most favorite opponents,” Stillwater Christian coach Ryan O’Rourke said.

“They always play so hard, they are a program of our size. We enjoy the competition.”

O’Rourke said center midfielder Lucas McKerrow had another strong performance.

“He played every minute the last two days (at Sandpoint on Thursday, a 4-0 loss) and really stepped it up defensively,” O’Rourke said.

Stillwater’s next action is its Cougar Classic on Sept. 13-14.

BONNERS FERRY, Idaho — Mabelle Hartman and Madison Morken both scored two goals to push Stillwater Christian School to a nonconference victory over Bonners Ferry.

“Our teams were very evenly matched today,” Stillwater coach JR Hemp said.

“We had solid play in the midfield by Marae Tintzman and Abby Stillo. We had outstanding defensive play from senior Madi Schwartz and junior Elysie Kreitner making several critical saves to keep us in the match. Our wings did a good job taking the ball down the line and passing in. Mabelle Hartman used her speed to go by defenders twice in the match and put the ball in the back of the net. Our girls did well today coming back with a win after a tough match yesterday.”

Stillwater opened with Sandpoint, Idaho, on Thursday, falling 9-0.

“We struggled in the opening of the match,” Hemp said, “under pressure from the first whistle. It was a very physical match. We played a very high level opponent. They were technically skilled and will coached. Our senior Madi Schwartz did a great job in her role as center back, taking away many goal scoring opportunities. Senior Linnea Hodgskiss had her hands full in the goal making 18 saves.”

Sandpoint had 33 shots on goal to Stillwater’s one. Stillwater had 15 shots to 16 for Bonners Ferry in the other match.

Stillwater’s next match is Sept. 7 at home versus Chrysalis at 1 p.m.
