MISSOULA — The Glacier Wolfpack soccer team battled through injuries to three of its starters to tie Western AA foe Missoula Hellgate on Saturday in its season opener 2-2.

Fielding a squad of sophomores and juniors, the Wolfpack bounced back to tie the game twice.

“We’ve got guys that have shown that they can step up at this level,” Glacier coach Ryan Billiet said.

Hellgate has been an elite competitor in Class AA for the past decade. Billiet was impressed in the team’s ability to go toe-to-toe with them.

Sophomore keeper John Pyron made 12 saves. Diego Mendoza and Burke Fox each scored a goal.

“Chemistry is in a good place,” Billiet said. “We’re just trying to see where we can take things.”
