Braves fall, Wolfpack victorious in Class AA hoops openers

The Flathead boys could not contain Great Falls in the second half as they lost their basketball season opener 63-54 on Friday night at Flathead High School.

The Braves led 25-21 at halftime, but the Bison stormed ahead with 24 points in the third quarter. Great Falls knocked down five 3-pointers in the frame, and Levi Torgerson tallied 11 of his 19 points.

Flathead’s Gabe Adams had a productive night, scoring a team-high 17 points and going 7-of-8 on free throws. Tannen Beyl added 13 points, including three triples, and Joston Cripe had 10.

Drew Wyman of Great Falls tallied 27 to lead all scorers.

Flathead will try to get its first win this afternoon at 2 p.m. when it hosts Great Falls CMR.

Glacier 49, Great Falls CMR 45

Glacier rallied in the second half to defeat CMR in its season opener on Friday night at Glacier High School.

The Wolfpack outscored the Rustlers 16-9 in the third quarter to erase a halftime deficit. Keifer Spohnhauer scored nine of his team-high 12, including two triples, in the final frame to help Glacier earn the win.

Glacier had a balanced offense as eight players found the scoresheet. Weston Price was the only other player in double-digits, with 11.

The Wolfpack will take on Great Falls High this afternoon at 2 p.m.

GREAT FALLS – The Wolfpack girls fell in their season opener to CMR on Friday Night at CMR High School.

Ellie Keller led Glacier with 13 points. Emma Anderson had 12 and Aubrie Rademacher 11.

Allie Olsen paced all scorers with 21 points for the Rustlers.

The Wolfpack will look to rebound this afternoon at 1 p.m. at Great Falls High.

FRENCHTOWN – The Broncs rolled over the Bulldogs in Class A boys basketball action on Friday night at Frenchtown High School.

Frenchtown outscored Whitefish 46-28 in the first half, and the Broncs’ Brandon Finley scored 18 of his game-high 24 before halftime.

Sam Menicke paced the Bulldogs with 15 and Bodie Smith chipped in 14.

FRENCHTOWN – The Lady Bulldogs fell in overtime to the Broncs in Class A basketball on Friday night at Frenchtown High School.

Whitefish took a four-point lead into the final quarter but could not hold on in regulation. Frenchtown outscored the Bulldogs 9-3 in the extra period.

Mikenna Ells led Whitefish with 11 points and Payton Kastella had 6. Frenchtown’s Shelby Smith led all scorers with 12.

The Vikings led 21-19 at the break, but the Huskies held Bigfork to just seven points in the second half to earn a comfortable victory.
