Strong showings by Flathead, Glacier at Butte duals

BUTTE — The final day of the Mining City Duals at the Butte Civic Center wrapped up on Saturday with Great Falls repeating as champions of the event.

Flathead went 2-2 in duals and fell in the semifinal to Bozeman, just missing a chance at the final.

The Braves started the day by beating Missoula Big Sky 34-31 and beat Billings West 41-33 in the quarterfinal round.

In loser out play, the Braves fell in a rematch with Big Sky 41-36.

Flathead is 9-2 overall.

“It was an emotional roller coaster ride today,” Flathead coach Jeff Thompson said. “Lots of highs and lows. We had some big wins and hard fought losses today. We love wrestling the top competition and working hard to get better.”

Cade Troupe, Asher Kemppainen, and Zaybin Stewart each had one loss through the two-day tournament.

Flathead is next at Missoula Sentinel and Hellgate on Tuesday.

Glacier was 0-2 on the mat on Saturday, losing to Frenchtown and Billings Skyview.

“Couple close losses today, but competed well, just came up short on a couple matchups,” Glacier coach Ross Dankers said.

Columbia Falls was 1-1 on the mat, beating Helena and falling to Missoula Sentinel.

Polson lost to Lewistown and Hellgate.
