Glacier, Flathead near top in Great Falls
Glacier High School Speech and Debate captured second place in Class AA at a Great Falls tournament over the weekend
The team scored 176 overall points behind Bozeman’s 228. Flathead High School placed third with 141 overall points.
“I like the way we are trending,” said Glacier Head Coach Greg Adkins. “The Bozeman team, like always, is so strong. They have a great team. However, they scored 60 points in the novice debates, so we will see where we are at with them in January, since the novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate and novice Policy Debate seasons are over. We are starting to show a bit more balance and depth. We are very young, and I believe we haven’t peaked yet.”
Flathead Head Coach Shannon O’Donnell said the tournament standings came down to the final rounds where they were outperformed, but noted an outstanding performance by competitor Jillian Wynne who competed in varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate.
“Jillian Wynne had a rare and remarkable performance this weekend, as she competed eight rounds, for 14 different judges, and never lost a single ballot. She finished the tournament with a ballot total of 14-0 and six perfect speaker points,” O’Donnell said.
Flathead and Glacier will be in Spokane on Jan. 10-11 to compete at Conway Classic at Gonzaga University.
