Kalispell picks new HR director

The city of Kalispell has selected Denise Michel as the city’s new human resource director. Michel will assume the position on Dec. 27, following the retirement of longtime Human Resources Director Terry Mitton.

Michel has worked in the city’s human resource department for 13 years, most recently as the assistant human resources director under Mitton. She also holds numerous relevant certificates and has completed significant human resources training, according to a press release.

“Ms. Michel is very well-prepared to continue providing comprehensive services to the approximately 190 city of Kalispell employees,” City Manager Doug Russell said.

Michel was chosen from a pool of three finalists interviewing for the position.

Mitton is retiring after nearly 15 years in the position.

“We provide resources to everybody. I’m just excited to get more involved,” Michel said. She said she’s looking forward to hopefully adding more safety training classes and educational opportunities for the city staff.

“The more people we have up-to-date with human resources, the more in compliance we are,” she said.
