Flathead first at Best of the West
PASCO, Wash. — Five Flathead wrestlers won their weight classes and the Braves won the team title at the Best of the West Individual Tournament at Pasco High School in Pasco, Wash., on Saturday.
“Getting eight wrestlers in the finals was also a highlight of the weekend,” Flathead coach Jeff Thompson said. “We are just so excited to see where this team ends up at the end of the season.”
Flathead beat second place Newberg (Oregon) by 59.5 points.
At 126 lbs, Cade Troupe won by decision over state champion Nicky Olmstead of Newberg, 2-1 in the final.
Brendan Barnes pinned Newberg’s Gideon Cole in 3:24 to win at 138 lbs.
Fin Nadeau (145) kept the Braves’ winning ways going with a pin of Charlie Evans in the final.
Noah Poe-Hatten won by decision over Ethan Garza of Selah in the #152 final.
Tanner Russell won at #170 with a pin of Lorenzo Gonzalez in the final.
Troupe, Barnes, Poe-Hatten and Russell were all undefeated through the weekend.
