Ski with Maggie

Olympian and Whitefish native Maggie Voisin will continue the tradition of “Ski with Maggie” day today at Whitefish Mountain Resort.

Kids of all ages can meet at the top of Chair 2 between 1 and 2:30 p.m. to make runs with the slopestyle skiing phenomenon. An autograph signing and poster give away will follow at Ed & Mully’s at 3 p.m. The event is free, however participants must have a lift ticket or ski pass for the skiing portion of the afternoon.

Voisin has been a member of the U.S. Freeski team for the past six years, is a two-time Olympian and an X-Games Gold medalist. She was born and raised in Whitefish, is an alumni of Whitefish Mountain Resort’s freestyle team.

Classic country

Cowboy Country and the Gold Dust Girls will play classic country and early rock ‘n’ roll with a touch of bluegrass from 7-11 p.m. Saturday at the Kalispell Eagles. Max Armstrong will join on fiddle.

Skijoring canceled

Due to a lack of snow, the skijoring event planned at Rebecca Farm this weekend has been canceled and will not be rescheduled. The event was slated to take place Dec. 28 and 29.

Sunriser fishing derby

The Sunriser Lions have their 49th annual Fishing Derby from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Smith Lake in Kila.

Prizes for biggest fish will be awarded. Prizes for smallest fish will be awarded to kids 12 and under. There will also be hourly drawings. Sportsman & Ski Haus will provide free hole drilling and bait.

Some free rods and reels will be given away to kids, while they last.

The Lions will be selling hamburgers, chili, donuts, coffee and hot cocoa from their food trailer. A warming fire will be kept going to take away the chill.
