Corvallis clips Dogs by 9

WHITEFISH — The Whitefish Lady Bulldogs could not rally after falling behind early, losing to Corvallis 49-40 in Class A girls basketball action on Friday at Whitefish High School.

Whitefish is now 4-12 overall.

The Blue Devils outscored the Bulldogs 14-7 in the first quarter. Whitefish held Corvallis to four points in the second quarter to go into halftime down just 18-15, but the Blue Devils pulled away in the second half.

Lainie Albright had a game-high 21 points for Corvallis.

Marlee Bender led the Bulldogs with 12, and Jadi Walburn and Kaiah Moore each added seven.

Whitefish will host Ronan on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. before finishing the regular season at Columbia Falls on Thursday.

Thompson Falls 32

EUREKA — The Eureka Lions overcame a slow start to blow by Thompson Falls in the second half to capture the District 7B regular-season title.

The teams went into halftime knotted up at 18. But the Lions (12-2 overall, 5-0 conference) outscored the Blue Hawks 38-14 after the break, led by Megan Hanson’s 16 second-half points.

“We came out flat ... we struggled to make a shot in the first half,” Eureka coach Ryan Holder said.

“Then we kind of settled down, turned up the energy and flipped a switch.”

Hanson had 10 rebounds to earn a double-double, and Sienna Utter led the Lions with 17 points.

Maggie Graves had a team-high three assists for Eureka, while Karlee Frost came up big on defense with seven steals.

Megan Baxter paced Thompson Falls with 14 points.

The Lions are back in action today at Missoula Loyola at 3 p.m.

HAMILTON — Hamilton held Polson scoreless in the first quarter, led 16-4 at th4e half and rolled from there for an easy Class A nonconference victory.

Hamilton closed with a 17 point fourth quarter.

Sophia Doyle led Hamilton with seven points. Misty Tenas tallied four to pace Polson.

POLSON — Hamilton made seven 3-pointers in the first half and rolled by Polson in Class A nonconference action at Salish Kootenai College.

Tanner Goligoski paced the Broncs (14-2) with 21 points and Hunter Omlid added 17. Micah Askan had 10 points for the Pirates (7-8).

Polson hosts Browning (14-1) today at 4 p.m.

EUREKA — The Eureka Lions rallied to take down Thompson Falls in a District 7B clash.

Down 27-21 at halftime, Eureka (2-9, 1-3) outscored the Blue Hawks (5-10, 2-2) 16-7 in the third quarter and held on to earn its first district victory.

Jake Kindel scored a team-high 11 for the Lions and Cory Cheney had 10.

Eureka visits Missoula Loyola today at 4:30 p.m.

LIBBY – Keith Johnson scored a game-high 22 points for the Libby Loggers (8-7, 3-6) in a Northwest A win over the Columbia Falls Wildcats (3-13, 1-7).

For Columbia Falls, Danny Henjum led the Wildcats with seven points.
