Chocolate Affair

The Kalispell Downtown Association hosts the annual Chocolate Affair from 5 to 7:30 p.m. today in downtown Kalispell.

Businesses will be open late for shopping and offer a variety of chocolate treats. To be eligible for door prizes you must visit a minimum of 10 locations and must be at least 18 to win, with one entry per person. Drop off completed cards at any of the locations on the walking card.

Fly Tying 101

Lone Pine State Park will host Fly Tying 101 workshops from 5:30 to 7 p.m. every Friday in February.

The class is intended for beginners who want to get into tying their own flies. Learn basic nymph, dry and streamer patterns and tips and tricks of tying other patterns. All equipment will be provided, and students will get to take home the flies they tie.

Space is limited to 12 participants. To save your spot call the visitor center at 755-2706, ext. 2. The cost is $4 per class or $10 for all four classes.

Father-Daughter Ball

The annual Father-Daughter Winter Ball will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.

There will be a deejay and dancing, a photo booth, desserts and beverages. The cost is $20 per couple; and $7 per additional daughter. For tickets, call 862-5371 or purchase online at whitefishtheatreco.org

Mizutani in concert

Flathead Valley Community College Music Department’s spring concert series opens today with a performance by world renowned violinist and FVCC music faculty member Wai Mizutani accompanied by Alma Ramlow and Natilee Radosevich.

The performance features romantic and dance pieces by Spanish and Italian composers.

Cheerleading camp

The Glacier High School cheerleading camp takes place Saturday.

Participants will learn cheers, chants, jumps and basic stunts from the Glacier High cheerleaders and will perform at half time during the GHS varsity basketball game. Call 758-7717 or email mfreidline@kalispell.com

Bigfork town meeting

A Bigfork Town Hall meeting is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Bigfork High School in the community room, located at 600 Commerce St. Children are welcome, however, no child care will be available.

Winter Carnival

The Whitefish Winter Carnival is in full swing this weekend.

Today

- Whitefish Community Center’s coronation luncheon for the Winter Carnival Golden Lord and Golden Lady Jim and Sandi Bellissimo is at 11 a.m.. The center is located at 121 E. Second St. RSVP to 862-4923 for lunch.

- The carnival gala begins with no-host cocktails, a silent auction and raffle at 6 p.m. The program and dinner are at 7 p.m. and the live auction starts at 8 p.m. at Whitefish Lake Restaurant. Tickets are $60, available at the Whitefish Chamber of Commerce.

- Snow Sculpture Contest — Starting 8 a.m. today, teams will work on their sculptures, completing them by 2 p.m. Saturday. The community can vote on their favorite sculptures during Saturday’s parade.

Saturday

- The Penguin Plunge is at 11 a.m. at City Beach. Pre-register at First Inter State Bank, or at the beach concession stand from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Proceeds benefit Special Olympics Montana.

- The Kiddie Carnival is from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Whitefish Middle School gym. All ages are welcome to play games and win prizes for all ages.

- St. Charles Parish, 230 Baker Ave., has a pie social and will have pie and coffee for sale from 12:30 to 3 p.m.

- The Grand Parade is a family-friendly event and always draws a huge crowd and gets under way at 3 p.m. downtown.

- Great Northern Brewery sponsors the Beer Barter contest. Folks bring an item to barter for a chance to win a year of beer.

- The Winter Carnival Climate Smart Art Expo awards will be presented at 5 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center. The public is invited to enjoy warm refreshments and check out the art work.

Sunday

- Whitefish Rotary sponsors a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon at the Whitefish Moose Lodge, 230 W. 10th St. Pancakes, eggs and sausage, biscuits and gravy, coffee and juice will be served for $8. All veterans, their spouse and children will be served free of charge with a veteran ID.

Tipsy Tow rides

AAA Montana is offering its Tipsy Tow service on Super Bowl Sunday.

Tipsy Tow provides a free ride home and vehicle tow of up to 10 miles for any driver, not just AAA members. For mileage beyond this, motorists are charged a standard towing rate.

The service will be available in Kalispell, Whitefish and Polson beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3 and runs through 6 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4.

Anyone who wants to ensure a safe ride home for an impaired motorist should call 1-800-AAA-HELP (1-800-222-4357) and state that they need a Tipsy Tow.

Services will not be provided to motorists requesting a tow to another drinking establishment, repair facility or any other location other than their home or a hotel if the motorist is, or plans to become, a guest. Other services not covered include requests to start a vehicle, flat tire change, gas delivery, taxi service and requests to transport more than two people with the vehicle.

Neighbors in Need

A free chamber music benefit concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. today at Bethlehem Lutheran Church; 601 Main St, in Kalispell.

Donations will support Neighbors in Need.
