The Bureau of Business and Economic Research at the University of Montana will bring its 44th annual Economic Outlook Seminar series to Kalispell on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the Hilton Garden Inn from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This half-day seminar highlights the latest economic trends for local economies and the state of Montana.
Every year, industry experts give their outlook for Montana’s important sectors, including health care, forestry, energy, tourism, real estate and agriculture. And for the first time, the seminar will include the outlook for high-tech and start-up industries.
The theme of this year’s seminar tour is “Facing the Challenge of Affordable Housing.”

Chamber monthly luncheon discusses downtown incentives
The Kalispell Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon on Feb. 19 will feature three experts on investment incentives for developers and owner-users in downtown Kalispell and the core area.
A vibrant, prosperous downtown is critical to the success of Kalispell and for workforce attraction. City Manager Doug Russell will present on the urban density characteristics of the B3 zone and opportunities in the core area and downtown Tax Increment Financing districts.
Jordahl and Sliter CPA Bryson Pelc will discuss the benefits of the recently approved Economic Opportunity Zones and Qualified Opportunity Funds, which offer a new economic development tool to attract investment capital through the deferral, reduction or possible permanent exclusion of capital gains.
MoFi Vice President Heidi DeArment will present on the New Markets Tax Credit program that provides additional capital to qualified projects.
The luncheon will be from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the Red Lion Hotel. It is $20 for Chamber members, $25 for nonmembers and $140 for a table of eight members, $175 for a table of eight nonmembers.

Job fairs at C-Falls High School
Columbia Falls High School is hosting two job fairs on Thursday, Feb. 21, in the gymnasium. The student job fair is from 1 to 3 p.m. with a community job fair running from 4 to 6 p.m.
It is hosted by the Columbia Falls Chamber and Job Service Kalispell.

Crime is topic for meeting of Young Professionals
Kalispell Young Professionals are invited to the next Espresso Yourself meeting with Kalispell Police Chief Doug Overman and Flathead County Sheriff Brian Heino on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 8 a.m. at the Kalispell Chamber.
They will discuss the top issues influencing crime, how crime has changed over the last several years and what young professionals can do to make a positive difference. They will also be answering questions.
C-Falls Chamber offers luncheon, development talk
The Columbia Falls Chamber general membership luncheon is Tuesday, Feb. 12, from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the NVH Community Room, 235 Nucleus Ave.
Speaker will be Jeff Mow, superintendent of Glacier National Park.
The C-Falls Chamber is also holding an Economic Development Meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 7:15 to 8 a.m. in the Nite Owl/Back Room. Everyone will have the chance to give an update on their businesses. The meeting is open to all.
