Climate advocate training offered

The Flathead Valley Chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby will hold a climate advocate training workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at ImagineIF Library in Kalispell.

The Climate Lobby is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, volunteer-driven organization. The Flathead chapter is one of five established in Montana. It is part of a network of hundreds of chapters around the country working to respond to climate change. Matthew Lamberts of Bigfork founded the group, which has met monthly since April at the Perkins restaurant in Kalispell.

According to a press release, the Climate Lobby’s approach to climate education is designed to create a broad, sustainable foundation for action across all geographic regions and political inclinations. By building upon shared values rather than partisan divides and empowering volunteers to use the tools of democracy, the Climate Lobby works toward the adoption of fair, effective and sustainable climate-change solutions.

The Climate Lobby endorses the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act (H.R. 763), which it says will drive down America’s carbon pollution and bring climate change under control while unleashing American technology innovation and ingenuity. The press release further states the bipartisan legislation is effective in reducing America’s emissions by at least 40 percent within 12 years while creating jobs and benefiting the economy. The money collected from the carbon fee is allocated in equal shares each month to all Americans to spend any way they choose.

Kristen Walser, volunteer Climate Lobby state coordinator from Bozeman, will lead the three-hour training. The workshop is free and open to the public. Register online with Eventbrite at https://catwkalispellmt.eventbrite.com.
