Basketball Roundup Braves beat Bengals, snap skid

The Flathead Braves (5-11 overall, 2-8 league) snapped an eight-game losing streak by taking down Helena High 65-58 at Flathead High School on Saturday afternoon in Western AA boys basketball action.

Three Flathead players scored in the double digits — Brett Thompson had 20 points, Gabe Adams 19 and Tannen Bell 11.

The Braves held a six-point edge on the Bengals at the half, 30-24, and outscored the visitors 35-30 after that.

For Helena (8-8, 6-5), Pierce Brown led the way with 16 points.

Helena Capital (8-8, 5-5) topped the Glacier Wolfpack (5-11, 3-7) in Western AA play at Glacier High School.

Parker Johnson scored a game-high 16 points for Capital.

Trevor Swanson with 13 points and Brady Martin’s 11 were the other two Capital players to score in double digits.

Glacier managed one point in the second quarter and trailed by 16 points at the half.

Weston Price and Michael Schwarz were the Wolfpack’s high scorers, both with eight points.

ST. IGNATIUS — Lucas Vanderburg totaled 19 points in leading Mission to a nonconference romp over Stillwater Christian School.

Wacey McClure added 15 and Jacob Hugs chipped in 14 for Mission.

Connor Drish paced Stillwater with 13 points.

It was the final game of the regular season for Stillwater.

Stillwater will participate in the Montana Christian Athletic Association state tournament in Bozeman. That begins on Thursday.

THOMPSON FALLS — Bigfork rebounded from a slow start to crush Thompson Falls in a District 7B matchup.

Thompson Falls jumped out to a 15-8 first-quarter lead, but it was all Bigfork after that.

Bigfork led 28-24 at the half and closed with a 23-point fourth quarter.

Clayton Reichenbach’s 19 points. Colton Reichenbach and Logan Gilliard both added 12.

Ryan Schraeder had 10 points to lead Thompson Falls.

Bigfork will compete in the Western B Divisional, which begins Wednesday in Ronan.

HELENA — Helena High (15-1, 9-1) rolled by the Flathead Bravettes (6-10, 2-8) in a Western AA matchup, a day after losing its first game of the season to the Glacier Wolfpack.

Jamie Pickens scored 15 points to pace Helena and Peyton Aasved had 12.

Taylor Henley topped Flathead with 12 points.

HELENA — The Glacier Wolfpack fell to Helena Capital in Western AA action, capping off a weekend in which it defeated top-ranked Helena High on Friday.

Paige Bartsch paced Capital (14-2, 8-2) with 14 points.

For Glacier (10-6, 6-4), Ellie Keller score 11 and Raley Shirey added six.

THOMPSON FALLS — Bigfork concluded regular-season play with a District 7B victory over Thompson Falls.

Isabella Santistevan tallied 10 points to pace Bigfork. The Valkyries outscored Thompson Falls 14-2 in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Bigfork heads to the Western B Divisional in Ronan, which begins Wednesday.

ST. IGNATIUS — Mission jumped on Stillwater early, taking a 15-2 lead in the opening quarter and 38-8 by the half for the easy nonconference win.

Addison Arlint topped Mission with 17 points. Selah Neumann paced Stillwater with 14.

This was the regular-season finale for Stillwater, who opens Montana Christian Athletic Association state tournament play on Thursday in Bozeman.
