Bigfork boys repeat as Western B winners

RONAN — The Bigfork Vikings used a big second half to overcome the Missoula Loyola Rams and win the Western B Divisional boys basketball title 53-43 on Saturday at the Ronan Event Center.

The Vikings head to the Class B state tournament as the No. 1 seed from the West.

Bigfork trailed by four at the half, but Logan Gilliard’s third quarter 3 gave the Vikings their first lead of the game, 29-28.

Colton Reichenbach hit a 3 late in the third, increasing the Viking advantage to five.

Gilliard and Colton Reichenbach sank critical free throws in the fourth quarter as did Anders Epperly, whose charity shot with 34 seconds left sealed the win for Bigfork.

Clayton Reichenbach paced the Vikings with 12 points.

Gilliard and Epperly each added 12 and Colton Reichenbach scored nine.

Loyola will face Mission in the challenge game on Monday at noon. That winner moves on to state play.

The Bigfork boys won this event last year en route to a state championship and a perfect season (24-0).

RONAN — Jacob Hugs carried Mission to a victory over Deer Lodge, scoring 24 points. He made four 3-pointers and went 2-for-3 from the free-throw line.

Jedi Christy and Luke Vanderberg each scored 10. Christy sank all four of his free throws.

Mission led 39-28 after two quarters.

Ben Anderson paced Deer Lodge with 10 points.

RONAN – Mission used a 22-point performance by Jacob Hugs to trounce Florence by almost 30 points.

Hugs scored 11 of his 22 points in the third quarter and sank three 3 pointers.

Jedi Christy added 14 for Mission, who led 30-16 at the half.

JP Briney paced Florence with 17 points.

RONAN – Deer Lodge outscored Anaconda 37-27 in the second half for the 15-point win.

The Wardens scored 27 points in the fourth quarter, paced by Greydon Nicholson’s 14 points.

Ozzie King added 12.

Anaconda had three players in double digits. Kyler Gochanour scored 15 and Michael Galle and Eli Saltenberger 10 each.

RONAN — The Florence Falcons edged the Missoula Loyola Breakers.

Florence is the No. 1 seed from Western B heading to the state tournament.

Loyola will play Deer Lodge on Monday at noon in a challenge game with a state berth at stake.

Sam Clevenger paced the Falcons with 12 points and made five of her six free throws in the fourth quarter.

Loyola’s Rilee Mangun also scored 12.

RONAN — The Bigfork Valkyries couldn’t overcome the Deer Lodge Lady Wardens.

Ansleigh Edgerton again had a big game for Bigfork, scoring 14 points.

Rachael Nicholson scored a game-high 17 points and Rilee Gray added 16 to the Wardens’ total.

The Valkries’ Emma Berreth turned in a 13-point effort.

RONAN — Bigfork used a balanced scoring attack to edge Eureka.

Ansleigh Edgerton scored 13 points for Bigfork, who had one other player score in double digits. Rakiah Grende added 11.

The Lady Lions had two scorers in double digits: Sienna Utter with 12, including two 3s, and Rhianna Hawkins 10.

RONAN — Anaconda’s Logan Stetzner scored 30 points but it wasn’t enough to take down Deer Lodge, who edged the Copperheads by four points.

Deer Lodge led 24-10 after two quarters but Anaconda came out swinging and outscored the Lady Wardens 35-25 in the second half.

Fourteen of Stetzner’s 30 points came in the fourth and she scored four 3-pointers.

Rachel Nicholson and Rilee Gray shared Deer Lodge’s scoring lead with 12 each.
