The Flathead wrestling team came in sixth at the Tom LeProwse Invitational in Bozeman on Saturday.

The Braves finished with 122.5 points. Bozeman won the tournament, tallying 214 points.

Fin Nadeau came in second place at 132 pounds, losing a 7-0 decision to two-time state champion Leif Schroeder of Bozeman in the first-place match.

Tanner Russell took third at 170, pinning Mason Corcoran of Missoula Big Sky in 1:31, while Brendan Barnes (126) and Dominic Battello (132) both finished in fourth.

Freshman Michael Downing turned in a great performance, placing sixth at 285.

“We aren’t happy with sixth place [as a team], but we also know that with a lot of hard work in the wrestling room and being able to score with our Killer Bs (JV wrestlers) that we aren’t out of the hunt just yet for a top-three finish at state,” Flathead coach Jeff Thompson said.

Hunter Fritsch of Polson was the other local wrestler with a big result, taking second at 170. Polson tied Laurel for 15th place with 63.5 points.
