Flathead notches win leading into state tourney
The Flathead High School Speech and Debate team was victorious in Great Falls over the weekend in the last tournament before the state tournament.
Flathead squeezed into the lead, earning 151 overall points for the win, over Glacier High School’s 142.5 points. In third place was Bozeman with 105 points.
“This weekend was a nail-biter to the end between the state’s three top speech and debate programs,” Flathead Head Coach Shannon O’Donnell said. “I’m proud of our kids for finishing strong. It will be an exciting state tournament this year, as each tournament seems to be decided in the final rounds.”
Glacier Head Coach Greg Adkins noted, “I am excited that we were under only 8.5 points away from the team title, but I am also bummed that we were 8.5 points away from the team title. We have improved dramatically this season, and I feel like we still haven’t peaked yet. Flathead put together a remarkable tournament, and held us off at the end. We have set the table for quite a battle for the state title.”
The Class AA heavyweights will meet again at the state tournament on Jan. 25-26 in Kalispell. Flathead will fight for the state championship title on home turf as it hosts the event.
