High School Basketball Roundup Buzzer-beater helps Wildcats sink Blue Devils

COLUMBIA FALLS — Drew Morgan sank a 3-point shot with one second left as the Columbia Falls Wildcats slipped by the Corvallis Blue Devils 48-47 in boys Class A basketball action on Saturday.

The Wildcats led 8-7 early, but Corvallis dug in and took a 38-30 lead into the fourth quarter. Columbia Falls (3-11 overall) outscored the Blue Devils (4-10 overall) 18-9 in the final frame and trailed 47-45 until Morgan’s buzzer-beater.

Morgan totaled 11 points. Dillon Shipp scored a team-high 13 and Sam Hodve scored 12 points.

Corvallis’ Caleb Warnken led all players with 15 points.

HELENA —  The Glacier Wolfpack dropped a Western AA decision to the Helena High Bengals (7-5, 3-2) in Western AA play.

Drew Engellant led the Wolfpack (4-6, 0-2) with 15 points. Bret Michaels added seven. Helena’s Connor Murgel led all players with 21 points.

HELENA — Brady Martin scored 21 points, 18 from behind the arc, to push Helena Capital (5-6, 2-3) to a 23-point Western AA victory over Flathead (4-6, 1-3).

Capital led by as many as 14 points in the opening quarter.

Trevor Swanson tallied 20 points for Capital.

Brett Thompson knocked down 10 points to lead Flathead.

BIGFORK — Loyola had three players score in double digits as it defeated Bigfork in Class B action.

Jack Lincoln tallied a game-high 21 points, while Jacob Hollenback scored 14 and Cooper Waters added 10.

Bigfork trailed 45-34 after three quarters and scored 23 points in the fourth, but couldn’t rally by Loyola.

Anders Epperly led Bigfork with 20 points and Colton Reichenbach scored 10.

With 16 points, Ryggs Johnson led Libby (7-7, 2-6) and Ryan Goodman scored nine points.

EUREKA – Maggie Graves’ double-double and Sienna Utter’s career-high 29 points paved the way for the Eureka Lions’ seventh straight win, an easy victory over Mission in Class B play.

Graves scored a career-high 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Utter’s career night also included three 3-pointers for Eureka (10-2 overall).

Mission had two scorers in double digits: Azia Humphrey with 14 points and Addison Arlint with 10.

Eureka is back in action Monday with a nonconference game at Stillwater Christian School.

The Wolfpack trailed 31-18 after three a quarters, but outscored Helena 17-13 in the fourth.

Helena’s Paige Aasved led all scorers with 16 points.

Raley Shirey and Abi Manger were Glacier’s high scorers with eight points each.

Bigfork has a nonconference game Thursday at home with Class A Ronan.
