HELENA — Flathead tuned up for postseason wrestling action on Saturday by downing both Helena Capital and Helena High in dual action.

Flathead had eight pins in a 54-24 romp over Helena High.

Brendan Barnes won by pin at 126 to give Flathead a 39-34 win over Helena Capital.

“We wrestled well in both duals, winning the matches we were supposed to win and won a few of that we lost earlier in the season,” Flathead coach Jeff Thompson said.

“We were really impressed with Paxton Boyce. He’s peaking now and really upped his game.

“Cole Eastwood looked really good on his feet and got a tech (fall) and a pin today. Barnes is also wrestling his best right now.”

Flathead finished the regular season with a 20-5 dual record.

“Not a bad for a rebuilding year,” Thompson said.

Flathead heads to Missoula on Saturday for the Western AA seeding tournament.

HELENA — Glacier closed out the regular season by splitting with the Helena schools.

The Wolfpack lost to Helena Capital in the final match, but beat Helena High in the final match.

“Really proud of the way the guys competed tonight,” Glacier coach Ross Dankers said. “It’s good to see that we are moving towards that peak that we are looking for during seeding and state.

“The Capital dual, coming down to the last match, was a great improvement over AA Duals. Colby Martin at 205 pinning the No. 2 guy in the state, Drew Kernan, a first-year freshman wrestler stepping into the starting lineup at 103 and getting a big win for us, and a few guys staying off their backs was the difference. Lance Fretwell closed the door hard on the Helena dual with a gritty effort and win to keep us ahead in the dual. I’m looking forward to a great week of practice and seizing some opportunities at the seeding tournament.”

Dylan Miller’s pin at 113 tied the Capital match at 27-all. A major decision by Lance Fretwell at 126 tied the match at 31-all.

Fretwell’s 5-0 decision broke a 34-all tie versus Helena High for the Glacier victory.

The Western AA seeding tournament is Saturday in Missoula.
